Farmers' Market Nutrition Program

NWICA is pleased to announce its participation in the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Programs for the 2017 season.

NWICA's Senior Nutrition Program will begin the distribution of checks on July 26th, 2017. The Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program SFMNP provides access to Indiana home-grown fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. NWICA, in partnership with the Indiana State Health Department, will host the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program in Lake, Porter, Starke, Pulaski, Jasper, and Newton counties again this year. The program provides $20 in checks for individuals 60 years or older to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from participating local farmers markets and food stands. The last day to redeem the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program checks is October 21st, 2017.

why is it important to eat fruit and veg
The health benefits of consuming fresh produce, the social interaction provided at the market, and the financial savings makes this a highly desired program for both our clients and area farmers. NWICA's objective is to continue to promote domestic consumption of agricultural fruits and vegetables. This results in good health and longevity for the clients we serve.
