News And Annoucements

NWICA has a new look but delivers the same quality programming to help you or your loved ones be independent!

Community Action month was full of exciting times, planning and anticipation for the future for Northwest Indiana Community Action (NWICA).

NWICA took advantage of this special time of year to announce the release of its new logo to staff, board members, and stakeholders (picture attached).  The timing of the release could not have been better, coming off the heels of a new mission statement and a renewed commitment to the Promise of Community Action.
The refreshed logo captures the essence of community action and NWICA’s mission to help people to be independent and advocate for those who can’t. The image is of two figures on an arrow. The arrow, the same color as the words ‘community action’ in our name, is pointing upward to indicate the lifting of people from circumstances that hinder their independence. The two figures are on almost level ground; one seems to be reaching out to the other to help him/her along, symbolizing ‘a hand up not a hand out’.

On July 4, NWICA plans to launch its first marketing campaign. Drafting Declarations of Independence is NWICA’s first marketing effort in over 45 years. It highlights our dedication to those we serve and the values we embody.  The campaign will showcase the individuals and families we help every year; encouraging them to sign declarations of independence from things such as high energy bills, hunger, chronic pain, institutionalization, or financial instability. NWICA staff also took time to think about the ways that they help people to be independent and signed their own Declarations.

Here are some of the things we're hearing from our program participants, Board, Volunteers and Friends:

I help people to be independent by: volunteering, trying to live our values everyday, providing support, serving on the board, providing customer service, providng a nutritious meal, exercise and socialization, helping people to remain strong and independent, weatherizing homes and improving the safety of homes, spreading the word about resources that are available. educating people that all have rights that should be protected and never ignored.

Today I declared independence from: homelessness, worrying about how I will pay rent, hunger, worry about what the future holds, high energy bills, being unhealthy, financial instability, chronic pain.

We look forward to celebrating the successes of NWICA and the entire Community Action Network throughout the year.  NWICA recognizes that in difficult financial and unknown political times, it is more important than ever to be a voice for those who are economically insecure and searching for options to become more independent.
